AndThen.
Everyday we breath, we learn and we hurt.
So I guess this is kind of about growing up.
And everything that goes along with it.

META-POST
Networked Media Production and creating this blog has been an educational and intriguing dive into the Blogosphere and Internet land. I did lots of learning and growing, with thanks to Michael Honey and Chris Arneil =D
Overall my blog actually did better then I expected. It’s not that I expected it to do really badly or anything; it’s just that the Internet is SO BIG and I am so small in comparison…
My blog started out mainly being about the job I had at the time, as a waitress… with a side theme of “growing up”. However there was an unexpected change to that situation and that’s when I shifted the focus of my blog completely to the theme of “growing up”. Much more fun, and a broader topic =D And I intend to continue posting and exploring even after today.
Here’s a screen shot of my traffic sources, thanks to Google Analytics =)
Lucky I linked my Tumblr to my Facebook! That was definitely a good way to get my blog out there. I knew I loved my friends for a reason.
Even if they didn’t have a Tumblr, they commented on the post that came up on Facebook. Most of it was just general I agree/that’s lame and a bunch of “likes”. My “Technical Problems” post got a bit of attention from my friends/the staff at Connect (Which is my job, that I focused a lot on during the first few weeks of this blog). Got “Miss you already” and such. I miss them too, the people that is, not the job.
As you can see 91.53% of my traffic is from referring sites, such as Facebook and through Tumblr. I didn’t actually expect to have a lot, if any direct traffic, but apparently 8.47% of my traffic was direct. This was probably my little sister and my best friend typing my URL in =)
I even got some hits from Moodle, Wooh =) I admit, I went through the participants list for Networked Media and started following some people from there… not as many as I had wanted to though, I might go through that list again actually =)
Here’s another screen shot from my Google Analytics page.
This one shows my visitor’s per day, site usage, a map of where people were located when they looked at my page, and a visitor overview.
The days that have the highest visits are the days that I posted the most. Kind of an obvious general observation, but it’s cool to see that it actually works like that, the more time and effort I put into my blog, the more time and effort people will spend looking at and contributing to it! It’s cool (but again kind of obvious) that the people, who like my blog, like it because they like what I like. And I only put up things that I like. People like quotes =) Haha. I’m going to find more of them…
The blog culture I seem to have joined is, well honestly, quite random.
Honestly, pretty happy with the average time people spent on my site. Just over 2 mins. I was about to say I swear I spend more time then that on other people’s sites, but when I thought about it, you see something so you click, then you scroll down for a while, reading until you see something else that really fascinates you, and you click again, which refers you to another page! So I guess people probably spend hours surfing, but only a couple of minutes on each page.
I’m keen to keep my Analytics page running, and continue checking it to see how people react, and to watch how my blog grows over time. I think my posts are proof that I have learned from the lectures, not to mention enjoyed them a great deal; I had never even used Flickr or Tumblr before this course. And now I know how to embed photos from Flickr into my Tumblr posts, work with HTML and CSS, create a mashup, make a tag cloud, observe trends and the data from Google and Google Analytics, and honestly I have a much better understanding and appreciation of the Internet, the Blogosphere, collective intelligence and data visualisation then I could have imagined.

This is my mashup of a map from Google Maps and photographs tagged with “Growing Up” and “Australia” from Flickr. I tried a few different search terms but this one seemed most relevant, and actually came up with more then 1 or 2 results =/.
